Three Mile Beach
Three Mile Beach in Santa Cruz is a secluded beach known for its rugged beauty, soft sandy shores, and remote access. Located north of Natural Bridges and connected to Four Mile Beach via coastal trails in Wilder Ranch State Park, it’s a favorite for experienced surfers, sunbathers, and hikers seeking solitude. Access requires a short hike from a small, limited parking area along Highway 1. The trail down to the beach is steep, unmaintained, and can be slippery—sturdy footwear is strongly recommended. Be sure to leave room at the gate entrance, which serves as emergency vehicle access. There are no facilities on-site, so please pack out all trash and belongings to help protect this natural area. Strong waves and rip currents are common, and the surf break is best suited for experienced surfers. Visitors should use caution near the water and check tide charts in advance—sections of the beach may become inaccessible at high tide, especially in the pocket coves. There are no lifeguards at this location. If you see someone in trouble in the water, call 911 immediately. Closed: Sunset to 6:00 AM
