Wabasso Causeway Park

Spanning the causeway that connects the mainland to the barrier island, Wabasso Causeway Park is a scenic lagoon-side haven that trades crashing Atlantic surf for the calm, expansive waters of the Indian River Lagoon. This lively recreational hub is a premier destination for outdoor enthusiasts looking to fish from the shoreline, host waterside barbecues, or launch motorized boats and kayaks directly into the water. The park is well-equipped for a full day of action, featuring free parking with boat trailer spaces, a paved boat ramp, public restrooms, outdoor showers, and covered picnic pavilions with charcoal grills. To safeguard this protected marine environment, local rules strictly prohibit alcohol, glass containers, and overnight camping, while requiring visitors to never disturb wild manatees or anchor on fragile seagrass beds. Finally, because there are no lifeguards and the area experiences high motorized watercraft traffic, traditional beach swimming is discouraged, and wading explorers should remain cautious of sharp oyster beds and sudden deep drop-offs.
