History
Port Hood Beach is owned by the Municipality of Inverness. Supervision by the Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service began in 1975.
Beach Safety
Port Hood Beach is safe because it is well protected by Port Hood Island and a rock breakwater. Water temperatures range from 22 to 24 degrees Celsius. The supervised area of Port Hood beach is normally about 200 meters wide, beginning right of the breakwater and extending about 100 meters to the right of the chair. The supervised swimming area is marked by red and yellow flags on either side of the beach. The water is very shallow in places due to sandbars, allowing the water to heat up early in the season and stay warm.
