Shark Fin Cove, located off Highway 1 near Santa Cruz, is known for its dramatic rock formations and breathtaking coastal views. The beach at Shark Fin Cove is small but stunning and features a massive namesake rock resembling a shark fin. The trail down to the cove is steep and unmarked; sturdy footwear is a must. Unlike further north at Davenport Landing, parking at this location is limited along Highway 1. There are no restrooms or amenities at this location, so be prepared to ""leave no trace"" and take your trash with you. Swimming is not recommended, with strong rip currents, cold water year-round, and the risk of sudden sneaker waves. Tidepooling can be rewarding at low tide, but visitors should use caution on slippery rocks and be mindful of rising tides to avoid getting stranded or knocked down. Always check tide schedules before visiting, stay off unstable cliffs, rocks, intertidal areas already wet from wave activity, and never turn your back on the ocean. There are no lifeguards at this location. If you see someone in trouble in the water, call 911 immediately.
