Pleasure Point and East Cliff Drive in Santa Cruz are popular coastal spots known for scenic ocean views, surf-friendly waves, and a relaxed beach vibe. Pleasure Point is a renowned surf destination with consistent waves, making it a favorite among both beginners and experienced surfers. Many people learn to surf here, but conditions vary considerably throughout the year—know your limits, respect other surfers in the water, and go with someone experienced if you're learning the ropes. East Cliff Drive offers stunning cliffside views, walking and biking paths, and access to small sandy coves for a more secluded beach experience. Visitors can enjoy tide pooling during the lowest tide windows of the year—just be sure to tread lightly and respect marine life. It's also a great spot for watching local surfers and wildlife such as otters, shorebirds, and migrating whales. Access to the water can become dangerous at high tide, especially at staircases where waves can surge suddenly. Many rescues occur in these conditions. Always check tide charts and approach with caution. If you see someone in trouble in the water, call 911. Parking is limited along East Cliff Drive and surrounding residential neighborhoods, so arriving early is recommended, especially on weekends.
