Davenport Landing Beach in Santa Cruz is a hidden gem known for its rugged and scenic cliffs, soft sand, and tide pools teeming with marine life. This small, less crowded beach is perfect for picnicking, beachcombing, exploring coastal rock formations, and spotting wildlife like sea otters and seals. Although popular with experienced surfers, ocean conditions are hazardous, with strong rip currents, cold water year-round, and the risk of sudden sneaker waves. Swimming is not recommended. Tidepooling can be rewarding at low tide, but visitors should use caution on slippery rocks and be mindful of rising tides to avoid getting stranded or knocked down. Always check tide schedules before visiting, stay off unstable cliffs and rocks, and never turn your back on the ocean. There are no lifeguards at this location. If you see someone in trouble in the water, call 911 immediately.
