Black’s Beach is a famous clothing-optional beach below a “gliderport” parking area on Torrey Pines Mesa. Blacks is a combo of Torrey Pines City Beach and Torrey Pines State Beach when looking at land ownership. It’s stretches from Torrey Pines State Beach below the famous Torrey Pines Golf Course at the north end all the way to Scripps Beach at the UCSD Oceanography Campus at the south end.
The access route down from the large glider port parking area is quite steep and slippery in places. If you are carrying stuff and/or need help descending steep trails then consider a different beach or a different route. There is another access further south at the intersection of Blackgold and La Jolla Farms Roads where a long paved path leads down to an area known as South Blacks Beach but parking is limited to 2 hours.
The clothing optional section of Black’s Beach is supposed to be well defined to avoid problems that could affect the nude beach status. The north boundary is Mussel Rocks (where large rocks extend into the water) and the south boundary is about 100 yards south of the main access trail. The gay area is reportedly a 15 minute walk north on the beach from the main path down to Black’s Beach.

The stingray activity is determined by how many people have been stung by stingrays on that day. When more than two beachgoers have been stung by a stingray at the same tower location a purple indicator will appear in front of the tower. The stingray activity dial adjusts based on the total stingray incidents for the entire beach.
Beaches and oceans are dynamic natural environments. Crowd conditions, currents, waves, wild animals, and other water and beach conditions can rapidly change. The risks and conditions shown on this site are informational only and not always real-time. Actual conditions may differ. Lifeguards are not always on duty or available. Always remain aware of your surroundings and exercise due care for your own safety and the safety of others around you.
Always check for water warnings or check with a lifeguard before you swim.
